Forte Mag - This State We're In #4 17 Nov 2016
Live music across the state is about to receive a massive boost with the announcement of a new $1.2 million professional development program for emerging contemporary music artists, industry personnel, live music events and venues.
Under Wings is a multi-faceted, three year program which will offer mentoring by established musicians and industry leaders, as well as masterclasses, skills development programs and business development training for anyone in the early stages of their music career – from performers to promoters, producers, technicians and more.
Part of the state government’s $22.2 million Music Works initiative, Music Under Wings will offer a suite of programs and activities that will support Victoria’s music industry to grow at both an individual and industry-wide level.
Victoria’s non-profit youth music organisation, The Push has partnered with the Victorian Government to deliver Music Under Wings. The Push’s annual Face the Music conference, which starts today, will be a key component of the program.
As the Victorian peak industry body, Music Victoria will manage a specialist mid-career live music professional development program which will support small music venues and independent promoters to build sustainable businesses. The program will have a strong focus on regional activities to strengthen the live music scene right across the state.
Music Under Wings will offer both open access activities and application-only programs throughout the year. For more information about the Music Under Wings program, go to musicvictoria.com.au.
“Victoria is Australia’s contemporary music heartland and the Victorian Government’s Music Works program aims to support and strengthen the industry at every level,” said Minister for Creative Industries Martin Foley.
“Music Under Wings is a ground-breaking investment in the next generation of contemporary music in this state The multitude of programs will ensure that those working in the industry get tailored support to build their skills and their business and to take their careers - and our reputation as the creative state - to the next level.”
There is nothing quilte like the good-time feeling of stomping around to a quality bluegrass band. Having seen them play to a handful of hungry bluegrass purists, as well as stirring up a giant dust cloud in the ‘Sup at Meredith Music Festival, we can’t recommend the Davidson Brothers enough. Relentlessly on tour, you have no excuse… Yee HAW!
