We deliver a range of professional development events; from masterclasses to panel discussions, to workshops and keynotes. If you are a Music Victoria member, you can attend all of our professional development events for free!

You can find the details for all upcoming events here as soon as tickets become available.

Since 2010, Music Victoria has delivered many high-quality professional development workshops around Victoria. Topics have included grants and funding, small business finance, publicity and promotion, how to get a gig, and industry updates on relevant sector issues.

27/05/2021: Financial Wellbeing 101

Support Act, in partnership with music industry accounting experts White Sky, are pleased to present Money Money Money – a workshop series designed to educate people who work in music about how to improve your own mental wellbeing through good money management and improved financial literacy. Presented by Kavisha Kuruk & Matty Tan (White Sky) & Jo Syme (Pieater, Hotel Motel Records, Big Scary). This workshop was hosted by VMDO Virtual Networking Breakfasts, brought to you by Music Victoria & VMDO.

23/03/21: Music Victoria Presents Innovative Approaches to Presenting Live Music

With the ever-evolving restrictions set in place to control the spread of COVID-19, venues are being forced to innovate their offerings. This session, aimed towards people and businesses involved in putting on live music, features a selection of venue operators who are pioneering creative programming in Victoria.

10/12/2020: Preparing for 2021 as an Independent Artist

Music Victoria launched a brand new program for artists this year called the Artist Consultancy Program. The expert Artist Managers involved in the program will feature on this panel: Alastair Burns (Heartstop Music), Amy Laidlaw (I Hear Django) and Michael Parisi (Michael Parisi Management). Greg Carey from the AAM (Association of Artist Managers) will moderate the discussion.

03/12/2020: How Live Streaming Is Evolving

Live streaming has been the only live music and performance solution for Victorian musicians in lockdown during 2020. Its main purpose was to maintain a presence of live music in hard times, which certainly helped us all at one point! In what was an admirable adaptation by the music community, this also shifted our expectations of production quality.

24/08/2020: Live Music Australia Grants Panel

The Australian Music Industry Network (AMIN), Music Victoria and the Australian Government Office for the Arts in the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications outline the guidelines and offer tips on applying for the Live Music Australia program. The first year of funding is aimed at preparing live music venues to become operational following the impacts of COVID19 on the industry. The focus of the program is on small to medium venues that support high quality original Australian live music that is professionally staged.

24/08/2020: Live Music Australia Grants Panel

Grant writers will take venues through the eligibility of Creative Victoria’s Live Music Venues Grants and offer tips on telling your story and impact to the music community, as well as budgets and support letters. Music Victoria CEO Patrick Donovan will moderate the discussion between Andrew Watt (Lawyer, Grant Writer, Ravens Nest Consulting) and Selene Bateman (Client Manager, Auspicious Arts Projects).
