Live Music Professionals Alumni

The music industry has shown incredible resilience throughout the challenging times brought on by COVID-19 and Music Victoria’s new Live Music Professionals Alumni Program aims to contribute to the recovery and support of Victoria’s music community.

Live Music Professionals is a business coaching program that works with Victorian independent promoters, venue owners, band bookers or venue managers who want to build their small to medium live music businesses.

Across four years from 2017 to 2020, Live Music Professionals created a formidable reputation of building capacity across the sector with 78 promoters, band bookers and venue owners coming through the program. They were coached by some of the sector’s most revered business owners, venue programmers, lawyers, accountants, publicists and brand specialists while also attending specialised conferences aimed at business up-skilling.

Now in 2021-22, a new opportunity has been secured to support our alumni in creating a lasting legacy through a regional and outer-suburban live music program.

In early 2021, Live Music Professionals alumni were invited to submit an expression of interest to participate in the project which has seen them access funding to deliver a broad range of live music events across regional Victoria and Melbourne’s outer suburbs. These live events will take place between December 2021 and July 1st 2022.

Live Music Professionals Alumni Program is part of On the Road Again, a Victorian Government initiative to bring live music back across the state. The Alumni program aims to contribute to the recovery and support of Victoria’s music community through the delivery of over 40 live music events around Victoria.

Phil Manning - Just the Blues @ the Tappy!

Phil Manning - Just the Blues @ the Tappy!

May 21, 8:00pm - May 21, 10:00pm

The Taproom - Shedshaker Brewing

It is impossible to talk about blues music in Australia without mentioning Phil Manning. Since the late 60’s Phil has been at the forefront of this genre as well as exploring other styles.

A founder & continuing member of the now legendary ‘Chain’, Phil Manning has long been regarded as the most effective blues guitarist produced in this country as well as a fine session player. He is a recipient of numerous music industry awards as a performer, songwriter and producer, and continues to push boundaries with his personal progressive interpretations of the traditional blues form.

His original music retains echoes of the blues but is also so much more than just that. He has an ability to absorb other styles and craft them to suit his personality has made him one of the truly unique performers of our time.

With many albums, both solo and with Chain, to his credit, Phil’s live performances have a deep well of experience and material to draw from and it is onstage that his music comes to life and shines.

"The Hornets are steeped in the blues, they rise out of the Yarra Valley delta meeting at the mythical crossroads where Chicago grit has blown in. This is an earthy blues band with a pedigree of outstanding musicians...." the Age's Warwick McFadyen about their latest album Lowdown in Lockdown.

Cookin' on 3 Burners featuring Stella Angelico PLUS DJ Sugar D at Birregurra Hall

Cookin' on 3 Burners featuring Stella Angelico PLUS DJ Sugar D at Birregurra Hall

May 28, 7:00pm

42-44 Main St, Birregurra VIC 3242, Australia Map

Grab your groove shoes, round up your posse and dance the blues away with a huge night of soul and funk bangers from Cookin' on 3 Burners featuring the Queen o' Soul, Ms Stella Angelico and 60s & 70s vintage soul, blues and funk hits from DJ Sugar D (Dannii-Elle Goff).

Cookin' on 3 Burners are coming back to Birregurra!! Last time they were in town, the joint reached boiling point with smokin’ soulstress Stella Angelico.

If you didn't make it last time, seeing Cookin’ On 3 Burners live is like poking your head through a time portal that stretches between the year you were born and the middle of next week. On one hand there are clues to a spiritual home that’s situated somewhere in the back streets of 1966, but on the other is a reinvented soul stew that’s very much a product of the 21st Century.

And as an extra treat, top and tailing the show, DJ Sugar D will be setting the dancefloor on fire with vintage 50s & 60s soul and RnB, and 60s & 70s funk. Get jumping and jiving to Motown classics and Northern Soul bangers with Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knights and the Pips, Martha and the Vandellas and more.
