Music Victoria and VMDO have partnered with The Boite to create opportunities for culturally diverse musicians through a pilot professional development program. The program, called ‘The Portfolio Project’, is designed to empower and offer creative and networking opportunities, resources, skills and assets for emerging culturally diverse musicians.

The project will consist of 4 phases:

‘Passport’ will include a series of intensive marketing material creation sessions and capacity building workshops. This will involve creation of high quality studio photo sets and video recordings of live performances for the participating artists. The sessions will also include workshops to review their current promotional materials and channels, and create an Electronic Press Kit (including professionally written bios).

‘Suitcase’ will see artists involved in promotional and audience development activities like smaller showcase events, radio appearances and print editorials.

‘Lounge’ will see participants be given professional introductions and networking opportunities.

‘Flight’ will see ticketed concerts, celebrating the achievements of the project, with targeted invitations sent to key industry players.

Emerging musicians from Culturally and Linguistically diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply for mentorships before 5pm on May 15th, 2022. Those from non-English speaking, First Nations, gender diverse and migrant communities are strongly encouraged to apply.

What does culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) mean?

The term CALD means those who are first, second or third generation migrants or members of ethnic communities. This includes Australian-born people who may self-identify or engage with languages, customs or cultural specificities of ancestral heritages that differ from those of Anglo-Australians.
