ABC Gippsland
Victoria's first regional ABC station, ABC Gippsland - or 3GI as it was formerly known - began transmission on October 31, 1935, just three years after the formation of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
The opening of the station was marked by a Grand Ball, a major social event for the district. Tickets for the ball cost 7 shillings and 6 pence with profits of 100 pounds donated to the Gippsland Base Hospital.
