Music Victoria is proud to be in the running for the Best Global Music Office in the Music Cities Awards.
The Music Cities Awards is a global competition designed to acknowledge and reward the most outstanding applications of music for economic, social, environmental and cultural development in cities and places all around the world.
The awards also aim to promote best practice and demonstrate the value of music to the world. We've been nominated alongside Auckland UNESCO City of Music and the Tulsa Office of Film, Music, Arts, and Culture.
Music Victoria is recognised for recent initiatives including the Regional Music Development Program, the “No QR, no entry” campaign delivered in conjunction with Save Our Scene, and the Victoria Together Commissioning Program which I produced thanks to funding support from Creative Victoria.
The winner will be announced on November 10th. RSVP to the ceremony here.
The 2020 Music Victoria Awards has also been announced as a finalist in the Arts and Events category of the Melbourne Awards.
Now in its 19th year, the Melbourne Awards are the City of Melbourne’s highest accolade, celebrating the inspirational Melburnians who dedicate their time and energy to making this city a world leader.
Music Victoria in conjunction with the Partners in Wellbeing Program is now offering the Victorian music community confidential mental health support services.
Adding further resources to enable the essential work of Support Act, Music Victoria's new team member, Bree Chapman-Stewart (pictured above) is a Mental Health Clinician/Consultant who will work alongside our team to deliver the new service.
The pandemic has been tough, it's important we get the jump on our mental health as we return to a new world of normal.
Bree offers free and confidential mental health support for you, your families, and your employees. Along with the one-to-one sessions, Bree can refer you to our free financial counselling and business advisory support services.
Bree's available for a chat Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.
Outside of Business Hours until 10pm, you can call the Partners in Wellbeing Helpline on 1300 375 330, or Support Act 24/7 on 1800 959 500.
You can self-refer by sending a confidential email to bree@musicvictoria.com.au or book directly here.
Gold Sounds will bring together the Victorian regional music community and feature speakers from the local area as well as Melbourne. The conference is designed to lead the regional music industry's COVID-19 recovery efforts while addressing the needs of musicians, music professionals and music communities. Participants will be empowered with the skills, networks and strategies they need to recover from the impacts of COVID-19 and carry that increased capacity into the future.
The conference is part of the Regional Music Development Pilot Program funded by Creative Victoria and delivered in partnership with Music Victoria and Regional Arts Victoria with support from Mount Alexander Shire Council.
Kicking off with a venues day, Gold Sounds will unite live music venues in Mount Alexander Shire and neighbouring areas including Macedon Ranges, Hepburn Shire and City of Greater Bendigo. Roundtable sessions will be held to upskill venues and their staff in key areas such as improving access, understanding how to nurture inclusive spaces, and will take a look at what the future holds as the industry rebounds in the wake of COVID-19.
Friday afternoon will take a youth-based focus bringing together the Mount Alexander Shire FReeZA committee and other young people from the area to take part in a professional development music conference geared towards young musicians and those aspiring towards a music-related career. Includes Q&A's with Lisa Lorenz & Aarti Desai from The Push, Shaun Adams (Festival & Venue Programmer), and musicians Dallas Woods, Jem Moloney & Maya Rose.
To attend the Youth Program, please RSVP to fionna@musicvictoria.com.au.
Saturday will see a full day of programming geared towards regional artists and industry alike.

The 2021 Music Victoria Awards
Date: Thursday 9 December 2020
Time: 7.00pm
Venue: Melbourne Recital Centre
At this stage, due to restrictions, it's unknown whether there will be a live audience. Music Victoria will provide more information on this as it comes to hand, but the event will definitely be live-streamed on YouTube and broadcast on Channel 31. Subscribe to the channel here so you get a reminder!
Music Victoria thanks Major Partners Bendigo Bank, City of Melbourne, Creative Victoria and Melbourne Recital Centre for their ongoing support of the Music Victoria Awards.

The second ever live-streamed Industry Awards event was broadcast live on Channel 31 and the web earlier tonight to award the industry-voted winners for Victoria’s best producers, venues, festivals and women in music, and reveal the shortlisted nominees for all remaining categories to be presented at the 2021 Music Victoria Awards in December.
Tonight’s debut Industry Awards hosts, Emma Peel (PBS 106.7FM) and Daniel James (3RRR 102.7FM) were thrilled to announce the 2021 Music Victoria Awards Hall Of Fame inductees, Kylie Minogue and Pierre Baroni. The internationally acclaimed pop megastar and the late great legend of the Melbourne airwaves will respectively be inducted into the Music Victoria Hall Of Fame at the official Music Victoria Awards ceremony taking place Thursday 9 December at the Melbourne Recital Centre. Melbourne artist, June Jones paid tribute to Kylie by covering her hit song ‘Come Into My World’ live for those lucky enough to have tuned in last night, while PBS 106.7FM Program Manager, Owen McKern praised Pierre on behalf of the station for his posthumous induction.
“PBS is truly thrilled to learn that Pierre Baroni will be inducted into the Music Victoria Awards Hall of Fame. An extraordinary broadcaster, Pierre programmed and presented Soulgroove’66 on PBS from 2003 until his death from cancer in March 2021. Pierre had been broadcasting on PBS since 1997 and his shows became unmissable weekly content for those discovering soul music and classic rhythm and blues. Beyond PBS, Pierre had been a musician, a producer, a photographer and a long-time artist and designer for the Mushroom Group. For all of us here at PBS he was a friend, a cherished colleague and a revered music collector. We still miss him dearly but are delighted that his memory and his legacy will live on through his place in the Music Victoria Awards Hall of Fame.” – Owen McKern, PBS 106.7FM Program Manager
